THE ASHLEY PHILLIPS BAND @ THE THE FIRE 9/29/07
|
|
This was our second
time playing The Fire. We had 9 people at one point on stage: Ashley: lead vocals, acoustic-electric
rhythm guitar; Shannon Pelcher: electric guitar; Anam Owili-Eger:
keys/synths; Andy Meyer: drums; Maxfield Gast: sax;
FunkyLB: bass;
Rosemary Fiki & Natalie Hicks: background vocals; and
MC Tax on the flow for Nostalgia.
Another awesome show with a good sized crowd. Also on the bill
that night was Mr. King
and his band, Anna
Nyakana and headliner Anam
Owili-Eger's trio. Anam played keys for 3 of the 4 bands
that night. Boy was busy, but played beautifully and tastefully in
every context as usual! We also had a 2 song/1 spoken word piece
set from Cristina Oribe.
She's a singer-songwriter to keep an eye on for sure.

Mr. King
Anam's first assignment for the night with Mr. King and his band. You can't see Andy Meyer (who also plays drums for us) sitting in with Mr. King for this one show as an emergency replacement. Andy did great job on drums even though he didn't really know the material. You couldn't tell.
Ashley, Shannon, Funkylb and that sangin' twosome: Rosemary Fiki and Natalie Hicks. Those two killed the background vocals as usual w/ choreography and all. I love 'em!
Ashley, Max, Rose and Natalie
Anam finally playing his own songs that night with his trio.
The legendary James "Coop" Cooper on bass with Anam's trio. He's a beast!!!
A peek at Anam playing with us.
Funkylb and that SANGIN' TWOSOME, Natalie and Rose. Man, some days I really, really, really love my life!!!!

THE ASHLEY PHILLIPS BAND @ THE NORTHSTAR BAR 9/20/07
|
|
Again...our first time playing the NorthStar as a band. We had 8 members deep on stage that night w/ Ashley: lead vocals, acoustic-electric rhythm guitar; Shannon Pelcher: electric guitar; Anam Owili-Eger: keys/synths; Andy Meyer: drums; Maxfield Gast: EWI & sax; FunkyLB: bass; Rosemary Fiki & Natalie Hicks: background vocals. This was a night of 4 female fronted bands at The North Star. We opened the show and Rue Melo, Nouveau Riche and headliner Naeemah rounded out the night. Thanks to Naeemah for snapping the soundcheck pics & to Andrea "Bam Bam" Jones for taking the performance pics.

LA quartet Rue Melo (Rue: vocals, Martin: guitars, Idris: drums & Bryan: bass). They are funky with a huge sound for such a compact outfit. The bass player, Bryan, killed and he's a really nice guy, too, with an enviable collection of basses. I made a new bassplaying friend that night. Cool!
We couldn't fit anymore people on that stage. I loved the way we sounded that night. I'm always especially happy when that SANGIN' TWOSOME, Natalie & Rose, are able to join us on background vocals.
That SANGIN' TWOSOME and wonderful singer-songwriters in their own right, Rosemary Fiki & Natalie Hicks. It is such a treat when they come out & play with us.
FUNKYLB: Yo, what's with the tie, Dude!!!???
Shannon, Max & Anam during sound check
Ashley, Andy (this is Andy's first gig w/ us & we pretty much love him. Y'all gotta hear this stutter step, New Orleans second line-esque groove that Andy plays on Wayward Child. It's ridiculous!!!) & Rose
Ashley, Naeemah & Shannon chillin' before the show
The Boys & Nat and Rose chillin' after the show. Look, Ashley got merch for sale, y'all!
No way! Is that me smiling. That almost never happens on stage.

THE ASHLEY PHILLIPS BAND @ THE TIN ANGEL 7/21/07 |
| Our first time playing as trio at all with just Ashley, Mike and FunkyLB. Mr. King, the headliner, was nice enough to let us play a 5 song set. The gifted Anam Owili-Eger sat in on keys on Can't Stop the Record. Ashley also added vocals and guitar to one of Mr. King's songs. Pictures courtesy of mixeDkid Productions |

THE ASHLEY PHILLIPS BAND @ GRAPE ST. 5/26/07 |
|
Our first time at Grape Street in Manayunk as a band. Nice set-up at Grape St. They provide amps, a keyboard and a drum kit. So, it was pretty much plug and play without having to haul heavy gear. Our official photographer couldn't be there, so I took a few of these and a chick from the band playing after us took a few. YIKES!!! To be fair to myself, I was breaking in a brand new camera. Personnel: Ashley, lead vocals and guitar; Mike P. on drums; Max Gast on sax; Terrance G. on keys and FunkyLB on bass.

THE ASHLEY PHILLIPS BAND @ THE KHYBER 1/23/07 |
| Our
first show of the New Year. The house sound at The Khyber was
sublime!!! The sound guy there did a fantastic and meticulous
job. Naeemah did 'backs' on To Know Your Love and her blend
with Ashley was so lovely. That song was a highlight for me.
Good show on a cold Tuesday night.
